Culinary Trailblazing

Wouldn't it be fun if, like the California wine trails, you could eat your way through a region, experiencing the local culture and flavor as you go? Intelligent Travel posted yesterday about a new brand of tourism—culinary trails. These are cropping up all over the country. My favorites from the Intelligent Travel write-up:

The Eat Well Guided Tour of America, a trail that featured sustainable cuisine, zigzagged up the West Coast before dancing across the country and eventually stopping in New York. This tour includes a Pie Across America tour—I'm sold.

The Ale Trail, which hits a handful of the 50 microbreweries in the Keystone State. My recommendation: shoot down to Philly and visit Victory Brewing Company and drink a Victory Hop Devil—or four—for me.

The Indiana Long Horizons Culinary Trail, which runs along I-69, which highlights the best of Indiana.I hope Santa Barbara County steps up to offer up an official Wine Country trail or two—with recommended eats.
